You Got Served is a 2004 film written and directed by Chris Stokes, manager of its stars, recording artist Marques Houston and the members of boy band B2K. The plot concerns a group of friends, participating in a breakdancing crew, who take part in a street dancing competition. It was released by Columbia Pictures' Screen Gems division on January 30, 2004, during the Super Bowl XXXVIII weekend and was produced by Billy Pollina. It was the most-seen movie during the Super Bowl weekend with $16 million USD grossed in its first week, a record until late 2005; the movie went on to gross over $40 Million USD, but has ultimately been featured on numerous "worst movies" lists, including the IMDB's "Bottom 100" list since its release. It was filmed in Los Angeles, California from May 1 - June 25, 2003. Despite poor reviews, the film's choreographers, Dave Scott, Shane Sparks, and Robert James Hoffman III earned a prestigious American Choreography Award in 2004 for "Outstanding Achievement in Choreography - Feature Film", and the film was also nominated for Best Dance Sequence at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards.
You Got Served opened to generally poor reviews, earning a 17% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes . While many critics enjoyed the dance sequences, they found the rest of the movie to be rather generic. Critics of the film assert that it is one of the most mindless atrocities ever commited to celluloid, while its proponents maintain that Omarion is like totally cute and ur just jelouse.
Trivia
Prior to the movie being produced, there were tryouts for all (actual) dance crews around Los Angeles to participate. Winners were featured in the film.
Despite breaking up before the release of the film, B2K still performed songs for the movie in what was said to be their final performance together.
The featured dancer Flipz was booked directly off of a private screening of Honey (2003 film).
David Elsewhere and Pop/R&B singer Keithian also made a cameo appearance in the film.
In the beginning of the movie Columbus Short was one of the dancers in Raz-B's crew.
